Welcome to Southern Sudan Interactive Radio Instruction
SSIRI is an integrated program of the Ministry of Education,
Science and Technology, Southern Sudan. It is funded by
USAID, United StatesAgency for International Development, and administered by EDC, Education Development Center. SSIRI focuses on the effective use of radio for delivering high-quality education programs to children, youth and adults. SSIRI offers the following programs:
• Primary Education - The Learning Village consists of
400 daily half-hour programs in
English, local language literacy, mathematics, and life
skills for grades 1 to 4. • English - The Terbia (Teaching
English through Radio-Based Instruction for All) program
provides English language instruction to youth and adults.
There will be 240 half-hour
radio programs.
• Professional Studies for Teachers is a radio-based,
distance-learning course to
improve teaching. Although all of these programs are
designed to be delivered by radio, some classes are unable
to use the radio lessons because they meet at times that do
not coincide with the broadcast schedule. SSIRI is providing
alternative low-cost technologies for these groups.
In addition, SSIRI is implementing more sophisticated
technologies including computer
centers with Internet capabilities and video production
equipment to strengthen teacher
education programs.
